2013: XOXO

On May 15, 2013, SM Entertainment confirmed EXO's first full-length album, entitled XOXO, with the attendant promotional efforts,[26]the first time EXO-K and EXO-M officially promote with the name EXO in both South Korea and China.[27] Right after its release, XOXOreached the top of all real-time charts of several online music websites in South Korea and China.[28][29]. Many songs in the album were rebelled "Hot".[citation needed] After 1 week, 7 out of 10 songs made it to the top of the Billboard South Korea chart.[citation needed]

Additionally, according to HANTEO, total sales in the first week reached nearly 120,000 copies, landing the album on the first spot of the album chart.[30] A few days later, Gaon released weekly chart Gaon 100 from June 2 to June 8, 2013; all songs from the album made it to the list of 100 most favourite songs of the week.

Formed in 2011 in Seoul,South Korea, Exo comprises twelve members separated into two subgroups,Exo-K and Exo-M, performing their music in Korean and Mandarin. Their name was taken from exoplanet,[1] a term referring to planets outside of the Solar System.

Exo made their official debut on April 8, 2012 with the release of their debut single, "Mama".[2][3] The single was a moderate success; Exo-M's version topped mainland Chinese music charts after only one day of release, and Exo-K's "Mama" music video reached to number seven on YouTube's Global Chart.[4] The group's two albums, the debut EP Mama and the comebackstudio album XOXO, released in 2012 and 2013 respectively, were major commercial hits, selling nearly a million units in total worldwide.[5][6] The lead single off XOXO, "Wolf", was the group's first number-one song in Korea and their first song to win trophies on music shows from all three of Korea's majorfree-to-air broadcast stations, earning the name "triple win."[7]
